Beyond Striving

2Cor.3.18 – But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord.

What should I do for you, Lord? This is a question we often ask. While the question isn’t bad, it places the focus on us. It puts pressure on us to do right, to live right, to strive. We often say, ‘Tiri kuvavarira kuva vatsvene,’ or ‘kuva vakaruruma.’ ‘Tiri kuvavarira kuita zvakanaka’—meaning we are striving to be holy, righteous, and to live right. This mindset points the finger back at us, suggesting it’s all about our own effort.

The critical question, however, should be: *‘Who am I, Lord, in light of who you are?’*

This question shifts the focus to God. We begin to see ourselves only in light of who we are in Him. It ceases to be about your own striving and becomes about your identity in Him.

Transformation does not come by striving; it comes by gazing at Jesus with unveiled faces. As we behold Him and see ourselves in Him, the Spirit of God infuses that face-to-face communion with the power to change us. It becomes effortless and natural.

Remember: Transformation is not a result of striving, but a result of gazing.
